A research assistant position is available in the lab of Dr. Mari DeMarco in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of British Columbia: www.DeMarcoLab.ca The successful applicant will support ongoing projects in the development and application of protein biomarker tests to improve patient care, including research on Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders.
The candidate will be based at St Paul’s Hospital, a teaching hospital of the University of British Columbia in downtown Vancouver, Canada. The candidate will work in a collaborative clinical research environment, and have the opportunity to interact with clinicians, biostatisticians and other collaborators.
The successful applicant will be joining a dedicated, experienced and highly motivated team working to develop and implement new protein-based diagnostic tests.
Work Performed
Receives, processes and organizes study samples and related data (e.g., biobanking-related tasks)
Performs biological sample preparation (e.g., immunoprecipitation, solid phase extraction) and routine analyses (e.g., western blotting)
Operates, maintains and troubleshoots problems with standard lab equipment
Assists in performing immunoassay and/or liquid chromatography—mass spectrometry experiments
